The problem we're solving
Dating apps follow the same broken pattern: see a face, swipe right, match, message, wait, message again, wait more, eventually plan something, hope they show up. By the time you actually meet, you've invested hours of emotional energy into a stranger.
We call it chat purgatory — the limbo between matching and meeting where conversations die, ghosting thrives, and plans never materialize.
There used to be a statistic here — a percentage of matches that supposedly never lead to a single message. We went looking for where it came from and found nothing, so we took it down, and we're not swapping it for a vaguer version of itself. You already know how this goes; you don't need us to put a number on it. What we can do is build the gap out of the product instead of describing it.

Why venue-first changes everything
When the venue comes first, everything else falls into place. You already know where you're going. You already know it's a place you like. Your date is pre-planned — day, time, venue. No "so what are you thinking?" No "where should we go?" No two weeks of logistics over text.
The venue also helps with safety. Every date happens at a vetted, public location with other people in the room. No sketchy meetups, no pressure to share your address. Just a good bar, a good restaurant, or a good coffee shop.
And because you chose the venue, you're more likely to actually show up. You wanted to go there anyway.
Why places first
In every great date story, the place is a main character. The bar where you talked until close. The coffee shop where you lost track of time. So that's where we start: pick the spot first, then find the person who wants to be there with you.
Going places-first also means betting on the neighborhood. Every date on Place and Time happens at a real, local venue — the corner bar, the taqueria, the coffee shop two streets over. When you find your person, your favorite spots win too.
And it means we measure success differently. Not time in the app — time at the table. Real connections happen in person, over a drink or a walk or a plate of dumplings, and our job is simply to get you there.

Why Chicago first
Chicago is the perfect city for Place and Time. It's a city of neighborhoods, each with its own personality. Logan Square isn't Wicker Park isn't Lincoln Park. The bars are different, the coffee shops are different, the vibe is different.
That matters for us. Place and Time works best when venues have character — when picking "The Burlington" means something different than picking "Big Star." Chicago's neighborhood culture gives every date a built-in story.
